Grant-bio DEN-series densitometers, available now from thelabwarehouse, are extremely compact, benchtop nephelometers developed primarily for Microbiological and Life Science applications involving the turbidity (density) of bacterial and other cell suspensions.
Originally described in 1907 by J. McFarland as an instrument for estimating the number of bacteria in suspensions used for calculating the bacterial opsonic index and for vaccine preparation, they are particularly useful as part of a bacterial identification and susceptibility testing programme. More recently, they have become tools for PCR standardization and DNA quantitation when applied to clinical samples.
